Jesus’ Dying and Living Gift

October 7, 2007

The Lord Jesus once made the statement in John Chapter 15, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”

As I watched the disastrous events of September 11 unfold in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania, I was awestruck by the numerous examples of brave citizens and rescue workers who literally gave up their lives in the hopes of saving others. These examples remind us of the greatest display of self-sacrificing love ever – the work of Jesus the Savior, who was willing to lay down his perfect life so that dying people might live. The purity and holiness that you and I could never earn or achieve – this is Jesus’ dying and living gift.

We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you. ~ Psalm 33:20-22
